History

There were 3 different Iowa Highway 150's prior to the creation of the present one in 1941. The first went from Homestead to Cedar Rapids between 1926 and 1930. The second went north from Denison to Schleswig in 1930, and the third went from Panora to Jefferson from 1930 to 1941. [1]

The current Iowa Highway 150, which was created in 1941, was originally intended to be an extension of U.S. Route 150. It went west from Davenport, which is across the Mississippi River from Rock Island, Illinois, where US 150 ended, to Tipton along current Iowa Highway 130, north along the current Iowa Highway 38 to U.S. Route 30 and west with US 30 to Cedar Rapids. From Cedar Rapids, it went northward to Walker, then west from Walker to what is now the current highway along County Highway D62. In 1969, as part of a highway renumbering, Highway 150 was truncated to Cedar Rapids and the Davenport-Tipton segment renumbered Highway 130. In 1984, upon the opening of Interstate 380 north of Cedar Rapids, Iowa Highway 150 received its current routing between US 218 and County Highway D62 with the decommissioning of Iowa Highway 101. [1]

In 2008, about 2 miles (3.2 km) of Iowa Highway 150 north of Vinton were closed after the flood of June 2008. The swollen Cedar River completely washed away Iowa 150's road bed in some areas.
